MIDDLEBOROUGH – Chief Lance Benjamino is pleased to announce the graduation of five Middleborough firefighters from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer training program.
Firefighters Alexandra Chase, Tyler Daschke, Joshua Dimond, Kyle Ohrenberger and Jonathan Wylie are five of the 30 graduates from the MFA’s Call/Volunteer Training Class 93, which officially graduated from the training program on Monday.
Firefighter Wylie was also awarded the Martin H. McNamara award for outstanding recruit.
During the 16-week training program, participants learn the basic skills they need to respond to emergencies, including lessons on fire behavior and suppression, public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management and self-rescue techniques. The program involves classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and live firefighting practice.
Graduates of the program complete 240 hours of training, all on nights and weekends. To graduate, they must demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack techniques. Upon completion of the training, they have also met the standards of National Fire Protection Association 1001.
“The MFA Recruit Training Program teaches our firefighters the skills that they need to respond effectively and safely to the wide range of calls that we receive,” Chief Benjamino said. “We are happy to welcome these five new firefighters to the Middleborough Fire Department, and look forward to seeing them progress in their careers.”
Other graduates of Class 93 represent the fire departments of Acushnet, Berkley, Dartmouth Fire District 1, Dartmouth Fire District 2, Dartmouth Fire District 3, Fairhaven, Freetown, Halifax, Marion, Mattapoisett, Rehoboth and Wareham.
