Chief Owen Thompson reports that the Middleborough Fire Department extinguished an early morning house fire on Deerfield Path.
On Monday, Oct. 23 at 3:07 a.m., Middleborough Fire responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 84 Deerfield Path.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered the two-and-a-half-story single-family home completely engulfed in flames. To prevent the fire from spreading, firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior attack.
The sole occupant of the home had exited the house safely before firefighters arrived. The occupant was evaluated on scene and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The fire was knocked down by approximately 4 a.m.
Firefighters remained on scene until 1 p.m. working through an extensive overhaul operation. At the scene, heavy machinery operated by the Middleborough Department of Public Works was used to access areas of the home that were unsafe for firefighters to enter.
The house has been deemed a total loss. The resident is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Mutual aid was provided by the Bridgewater, Plympton and Raynham Fire Departments. Lakeville Fire provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Middleborough Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
